On a personal note, Studio41 turns one. 🍰
Yeah, the newsletter you are reading is brought to you by Studio41, a podcasting studio. Read more about our podcasts here
Our love for creation spilled over into curation and which is why we started this newsletter.
But not one to be satiated, we got carried away. We recently launched another newsletter, SportsQuota. After a still born attempt at getting a cricket podcast of the ground (doesn’t help when you launch an IPL podcast and IPL shuts down) , we are pivoting to a newsletter. If you love cricket, this is for you. SportsQuota!
Videos🎬
Three videos for you this time around.
Numero Uno.
3:45PM
Alisha Liu made this beautiful short film. Two friends sitting in Central Park on a bright afternoon. Talking about life.
I am not sure if this short was made before the pandemic but perhaps the pandemic makes it even more pertinent. What does it mean to be human? To be so tiny in the grand scheme of things.
Watch it.
(Side note - I really really want to sit in a public park)
Number 2
This one doubles up as a music recco too. May be a tough watch because of how it is shot but once your eyes adjust to what is happening on screen it all makes sense.
Also, this music is just a proper Hitchcockian thriller ending music. Good job Stravinsky.
Bonus Watch
The oldest movie on IMDB. Passage de Venus.
MUSIC🎶
You have most definitely heard of Ankur Tewari. Singer. Songwriter. Musician.
During the early days of the pandemic he put out a Apple Music playlist on social media. Kind soul. Trying everything in his capacity to help out.
I clicked on the playlist (it was called Downtime) and then clicked on his name and bam! there were so many playlists he had made and possibly didn’t find a need to share. Playlists on different themes, different moods, and styles of music. Every once in a while I dive into this personal trove of mine (and Ankur’s).
It is through these playlists that I discovered Arooj Aftab.
This Lahore born singer has her third album out recently. Vulture Prince.
This is my favourite from the album. Written originally by Hafeez Hoshiarpuri.
Mehdi Hasan sang this one too.
PODCASTS🎙
The Line
I recently starting this new show and I am hooked. Quite an interesting premise for this non-fiction show. Navy SEALs are the actual cream of the American soldiers. Every year barely a 100 soldiers go on to become a SEAL.
Does this mean that these are the absolutely best soldiers available? Or non-empathetic robots who know only one thing, killing.
Quiz Time India
Quiz Time India turns one year old.
To celebrate the occasion we asked some of our favourite panelists to return for a quick question. For the first time we have as many as 13 Quiz Masters in one episode. Berty Ashley, Chandan Chatterjee, Ashvini Natu, Dayanand Prabhu, Kunal Mandal, Manas Deep, Ishita Das, Sai ganesh, Tilak Shah, Vikhyat Muthyala, Abhinav DasGupta, and Rajiv Rai.
WATCHING📺
Past few years, I have been having a tough time tryin’ to watch TV shows. Can’t seem to concentrate. Too much on my mind types.
Which is why I surprised myself with how quickly I finished Ted Lasso.
One day. All episodes. Season 1. A good ol’ binge. And I am feeling good!
I have never seen Brooklyn 99 but I guess this is a similar high. Try it.
