Eurovision was back this year after a Covid induced break. I have never followed Eurovision and had trouble making sense of it all but luckily for me, @filterkaapi and @Rishabh from our Discord server, did follow the performances and hence today’s music recommendations are courtesy these two. Thanks you two.
Birth of a New Age by Jeangu Macrooy from Netherlands - The song sung by Netherlands introduced a new language to the portfolio of Eurovision. It was in a language called Sranan Tongo from parts of Suriname.
Shum by Go_A from Ukraine - Shum (Ukraine) was a springtime folk song. Earlier, the band entered their exact rendition, but according to Eurovision rules, the countries are supposed to enter "fresh" songs, so they rewrote parts of it.
El Diablo by Elena Tsagrinou from Cyrpus - the song by Cyprus "El Diablo" created a lot of controversy. While the Church was totally against it , the government supported it completely. Also, it was heavily compared to Lady Gaga's Bad Romance.
Zitti E Buoni by Måneskin from Italy - The winners of 2021. I can’t be the only one who thinks the lead singer looks like Peter Andre meets Marilyn Manson. Either way, love the punkish vibe to this song.
Go beyond these 4 and pretty sure you will find enough recommendations to last you a weekend. At least.

Movies📼
This week’s genre is extremely specific.
’Horrific things happen to dancing troupes”
First up is Gasper Noe’s Climax. Gasper is an oddity. On one hand he is easily the most visually arresting directors of this generation but then, he also holds the unofficial record for most walkouts ever in a director’s career. One of his previous films was a 3D film called ‘Love’ in which he had bodily fluids being spurted towards the audience. One wonders how the extremely graphic Irreversible would be looked at if it released in 2021.
Anyway, this week, we have a look at the comparatively milder Climax.
Check out the first 5 minutes of the film below. I mentioned ‘visually arresting’ earlier and what an amazing scene. One song. Single take and you meet all the characters of the film . It is just mesmerising.
(Btw even though Climax is milder compared to the rest of Noe’s films, please do look up Trigger Warnings for the film)
Moving on, we have a movie that led to the birth of an genre and then its remake.
Dario Argento invented the hyperstylised horror genre of ‘Giallo’ and Suspiria sits at top of it. The film is an iconic one and in 2018 Luca Guadagnino (Call me by your name) did his own rendition of the classic. The 2018 featured Tilda Swinton and ever so impressive Dakota Johnson. Proper creepy music too.

We all have seen the ‘clapper’ person on sets. But not like this.
This is a highly informative video about the film-making process.
Who's Who in the Movie Credits - For example, who is a Producer? What about Executive Producer or an Associate Producer?
