My friend, you do you.
The world seems to be on a downward trajectory so it only makes sense that we indulge in what makes us feel good. A little bit of hedonism surely won’t hurt.
A channel which goes by the name Food4Dogs is being run by an elderly lady who is talking about… her obsession of handheld video games! In the last edition of this newsletter we had a documentary about Indie gamers. This is the other end of the spectrum. Check the video here.
Cheetah is back
Akbar owned more than 1000 Cheetahs while he was king. From then to 1947, when a Maharaja killed the last surviving Indian Cheetah, we lost the entire Cheetah population. That is a drastic drop. In 1950, Cheetahs were declared extinct in India.
Now after, almost 70 years, the spotted cat is making a come-back. Watch this incredible video on the Cheetah’s return.
Bonus watch
Sunil Gavaskar teaches you how to have chai with biscuit.
Of course, you have heard of the struggles of the chai drinker who lost their biscuit in the chai when they dipped it for too long. Or perhaps it has happened to you too. Sunil Gavaskar has found a solution. An incredible solution. The audio is in Marathi but that shouldn’t be a problem.

Summer is at its peak. The monsoons are not here. Yet.
Europe (always) seems to be going through a heat wave. As is America.
In today’s music recommendation, we go back to our trusted NPR. This is a Summer playlist.
Your shirt sticking to your back summer.
Step out and hope some breeze hits your face summer.

Movie🎥
In the last week’s movie recommendation, I spoke about the Indie gamers as the ‘fools’ who did what they loved. Here are more such fools. From Uganda. From Malegaon, Maharashtra.
Enter Wakaliwood
Deep in Uganda, on a next to zero budget and on something that resembles a computer, low budget movies are being made. This is a pure passion project. This is Wakaliwood.
Some backdrop first. In Uganda, there is a tradition of a Video Jockey/VJs. In late 80s, American action films like Rambo were big hits in the world and would end up in Uganda too. Only thing, no one in the audience spoke or understood English. Well, very few did. Hence, arose the need for a translator. The aforementioned VJ. It would happen that the VJ themselves would not know English and would misinterpret the entire plot. Didn’t make a difference to the crowd, they loved it all the same.
That love for the action films of the 80s gave birth to a film industry.
Famously, the early Wakaliwood movies have been lost because the only computer in the slum/town to edit these films didn’t have enough memory space. The old movie had to be deleted, for a new one to be shot/edited.
Today I introduce to the biggest movie from Wakaliwood.
Who killed Captain Alex? It is absurd. It is funny. Mazedaar.
Closer home.
Welcome to Malegaon. This is as DIY as it gets.
Supermen of Malegaon is a documentary about the film industry of Malegaon. Again, not sure if it can be described as a film industry.
Malegaon, a small town tucked away near the heart of India geographically, is fraught with communal tension and under severe economic depression. To escape the harsh reality of their world, its people seek refuge in the fantastical world of cinema. This passion for cinema has spurred a group of cinema enthusiasts to make their own films-quirky, low budget, socially aware and notoriously funny spoofs of Bollywood films. Their ambition has grown and now they are ready to take on Hollywood and Superman. We follow them on this journey.
And on that note, we bring this edition to an end.
Any typos you came across were totally on purpose :)
