Earlier this week I was speaking to someone about the newsletter. How to grow it and how do I streamline the process and so on. That person suggested using AI.
One, Artificial Intelligence (AI) could be used to curate these links that you read/watch/hear on this newsletter but that just defeats the purpose of the newsletter whose only goal is to provide the readers with handpicked recommendations. Things which an adult human has enjoyed and wants you to go through.
Going further, the second thing that AI could do was to come up with writeups about the links that I share. I write these tiny paras along with the links to basically tell the reader what to expect and why is it important or what did I enjoy about the link that I have shared.
Turns out there is something called as GPT-3, and it is already making news with what it can do with languages. I wish I could tell you what it does or how it does but that is beyond my understanding. But since I was down this rabbit hole, I decided to prod further. Here is an interesting video.
Btw if you have any suggestions about the newsletter, just reply to this mail. Let us talk.
Songs🎵
Remember Obama? Yeah, the American president who I had accidently called Osama on this newsletter only to be pointed out by a reader and which lead me to apologise profusely.
So Barack keeps putting out these best of the year lists. Movies. Books. Music. That kind of a thing. It is a habit that he started during his White House days and has continued ever since.
Last week he released his ‘favourite music’ list.
The previous year’s list famously featured Prateek Kuhad and this time around representing all the desis from around the world we have Arooj Aftab (Lahore janta are also considered Desis).
Now the readers of this newsletter will remember that we had featured Arooj Aftab’s Mohabbat in 9th edition of the newsletter. This was a track from her third album Vulture Prince and my (and Obama’s) personal favourite.
(How cool would it be if Obama read this newsletter? May be he would write me a blurb? May be not. Considering I called him Osama on the same newsletter)
Here is the playlist. Enjoy.

Today’s theme - Musical documentaries from Rajasthan
First up, a new series about some musicians/singers from the Rajasthani hinterland. Searching for the blues is put out by Aga Khan Musuem. I don’t even remember how and where I came across this series. Brilliant watch though. Love the editing style. The music is bilkul ek number.
Up next, Junun.
In Spring 2015, Israeli composer Shye Ben Tzur, Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood and `The Rajasthan Express' were hosted by the Maharaja of Jodhpur at Mehrangarh Fort. This beautiful and joyously unique 3-week union resulted in the album and film `Junun
Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. Yes, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Master, Inherent Vice. This is the fucker who made There will be blood. Same PTA.
And on that note, we bring this edition to an end.
