Videos🎬
When was the last time you took a train journey?
If you happen to look up Indian train announcements on Youtube ( yes that is a thing.) you will see many videos of the once common train announcements. *Ting ting ting*
Open any of the videos and check the comments. It is full of desis reminiscing about travelling by trains. Trains were such a big part of our lives and here we are now, not seen a train in a year and a half.
Today’s first video is that of a 7 1/2 hour scenic long train from Bergen to Oslo (Norway). It is scenic indeed. I suggest put it on a big screen and get on with your day.
Since we are talking about escapism. Here is an escape of a different kind. Featuring Banksy. That ending though.
Songs🎵
Two songs that I discovered this week. Number one. Mumford and Sons’s cover of Nine Inch Nails’s Hurt. Trent Reznor sang it, it got famous. Then came Johnny Cash and it got real poignant. Now comes in Mumford and Sons with this rather unexpected but crazy good version of the song. Love it.
They once said, Paul is dead.
Well, Paul is alive and well (and hopefully stays that way for another 100 years). He, post pandemic, released his 18th solo album. That was ‘McCartney III’.
Now a bunch of musicians/artists have remixed the songs from the album in a unique experiment. Following is the remix of Macca’s Find Your Way by Beck.
What else?
It features a CGI Paul McCartney. A younger Paul McCartney.
Talking about Paul, this is one of his recent ones that I enjoyed quite a lot.
Movie🎥
This week’s movie recommendations are so so unique. You’ll love them.
You know when you see a movie couple and wonder if they are really acting or they are perhaps actually in love? Think Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in La La Land. Right? Well today’s recommendation is treading those lines.
‘Once’ is an earlier movie by John Carney (Begin Again and Sing Street) and perhaps the one which put him on the map. *spoilers ahead* The movie stars Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová as two young musicians who come together to create music and end up falling in love. Fairly simple. The thing however is that both Glen and Markéta aren’t actors but actual musicians. So the music they are making is actually real. So is the falling in love. It is brilliant to see a couple actually fall for each other. Also, they got an Oscar winning song out of it. The entire movie is on Youtube. Watch it before it is gone. You won’t regret it.
Now comes the absolutely crazy bit. After ‘Once’ became an indie hit and won an Oscar, Glen and Markéta who were dating by then, decided to go on a two year tour as a band called Swell Season, and this is where real life hits. A brilliant documentary about two musicians turned actors who actually fell for each other while shooting a romantic film and are now touring together.
Available on Youtube. Do not miss it.
